Chief Operating Officer: Jason H. Sakamoto, Ph.D.

Dr. Sakamoto
is a native Northern Californian recently transplanted to Houston,
Texas. In 1997, he graduated with a B.S. in Material Science
Engineering from The University of California at Berkeley under the
mentorship of Dr. Mauro Ferrari. Dr. Sakamoto entered
the medical device industry after graduation and was employed as a
coronary and peripheral stent manufacturing and process engineer at the
Guidant Corporation in Santa Clara, California.
In 2000, Dr. Sakamoto rejoined Dr. Ferrari and pursued his doctorate in Biomedical Engineering at The Ohio State University. During his graduate school career, Dr. Sakamoto investigated innovative computational approaches for the molecular analysis of breast cancer through the utilization of targeted nano-particle ultrasonic contrast agents. Also during this time, Dr. Sakamoto founded a biotech startup upon his research and funded this entrepreneurial venture by entering and winning numerous business plan competitions across the nation.
Upon completion of his Ph.D., Dr. Sakamoto remained as a
post-doctoral researcher in Dr. Ferrari’s research group and also
worked as a business development consultant for several biotech
start-ups. Furthermore, Dr. Sakamoto served as the acting
President of the International Society of BioMEMS and Biomedical
Nanotechnology (ISBBN). In 2006, Dr. Sakamoto merged
the ISBBN with the American Academy of Nanomedicine where he now serves
on the Board of Directors. Sakamoto has written several
publications on nanomedicine including journal articles & book
chapters and is a co-inventor of US pending patents.
Currently, Dr. Sakamoto is positioned as the Chief Operating
Officer of the Alliance for NanoHealth (ANH), a consortium of research
institutions of the Texas Medical Center and Greater Houston Region
dedicated to the commercialization of nanotechnology aimed to solve
some of medicines most challenging
problems.
